In the creation of 113, a glass form is blown conventionally, then molten copper is poured into the hot glass vessel. Over the course of the nine-day demonstration, the sculptures will be carried from the museum’s John Madejski Garden in several dignified, exalted processions, into the V&A’s Santa Chiara Chapel. 113 embodies the unexpected beauty of manipulating the two materials to create significant discrepancy in their respective rates of expansion. During the performance, common copper and glass antiquities procured from flea markets and vintage stores were returned to their raw materials, and used to create a series of new 113 artefacts.Ī delicately intricate sculpture, 113 is created as a result of an ongoing series of experiments exploring the relationship between copper alloys and glass. For the first time in the museum’s history, the John Madejski Garden transformed into an immersive glass-blowing studio, with Arbel’s iridescent, fragile sculpture 113 taking centre stage over the course of the nine-day demonstration. Please call the hive showroom with any questions: 1-86. Unless otherwise specified, one transformer is sent for every 3 grouping of pendants. Canopy attaches directly to a standard junction box. Installation to be done by certified electrician to ensure code compliance. Bocci recommends mounting transformers remotely in a close, accessible and hidden location for ease of long term maintenance. Headphone jack hardware allows the installer to attach the canopy to the ceiling before "plugging in" the individual pendants one by one. All Bocci designs are developed, engineered, and fabricated in-house through an infrastructure calibrated to provide full control over technique, quality, and scale. Today, Bocci has a growing portfolio of contemporary design ranging from light installations through to furniture and electrical sockets. The company launched with one product, 14, which became an instant classic and remains a design staple and bestseller. In 2005, Bocci was founded in a red barn surrounded by hay fields, on the periphery of Vancouver, Canada. Omer Arbel's work has been exhibited in various museums around the world. His interdisciplinary practice spans multiple scales and cultural-economic contexts. Please note: there may be a variance of +/- 2" on specified shortest and longest lengths.īocci Creative Director Omer Arbel explores the intrinsic mechanical, physical, and chemical qualities of materials as fundamental departure points for making work. Specified shortest and longest lengths are from the underside of the canopy to the bottom of the pendant. Additional cable lengths are available and can be customized in increments of 10' feet up to a maximum of 120' feet. Fixtures come standard with 10' feet of coaxial cable. The fixture can be specified with shortest & longest pendant lengths with the drop lengths of the other pendants randomized and fabricated by Bocci to variously cluster and scatter (custom lengths & configurations are also available, please call to specify). A strong contrast is established between the organically distributed soft light passing through the translucent white porcelain skin and the sharp, crisp light passing through the borosilicate glass diffuser.Ģ1.11 is a random configuration of eleven 21 pendants hung from either a square or rectangular canopy. The thin porcelain skin is allowed to dress the borosilicate core in whatever form occurs naturally - creating a unique shape in every iteration of the fabrication process. Inspired by the sporadic, perhaps discordant arrangement of barnacles on a rock surface, the 21 collection is fabricated from thin sheets of porcelain draped over inverted trumpet-shaped diffusers made of sandblasted borosilicate glass.
